Marbella

[/col] [/row]

Marbella is the home of the rich and beautiful, the choice of the glitterati. The town is chic and modern and boasts more than 28 kilometres of beach. King Fahd of Saudi Arabia holds parties here as does Sean Connery, who incidentally spends most of the year in the town. And it goes without saying that Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas (who comes from Malaga) have a villa here. Even the Mayor, who has been involved in one scandal after the next and who has had charges of fraud and embezzlement brought against him – there are also court proceedings relating to other crimes, too – even he is part of the daily life and character of Marbella. This town offers first-class service in every field and is imbued with a cosmopolitan flair like no other place along the coast.

The Old Town of Marbella is made up of small, winding streets and passageways and, when strolling along the Plaza de los Naranjos, it is very easy to quickly forget the hustle and bustle of the main quarter of Marbella with its busy hotels, lively marinas and congested streets.

Puerto Banús

In the exclusive harbour of Puerto Banús, you will find yourself rubbing shoulders with the rich and with the stars of show biz. Everywhere you look there are designer boutiques and high-class restaurants and some of the most expensive yachts in the world are moored up in the marina.

According to the Municipality of Marbella, Puerto Banús is visited annually by nearly 5 million people. Visitors to the port tend to be mostly tourists from northern Europe (especially United Kingdom) and Arabs (especially Kuwait and Saudi Arabia), along with Spanish tourists. The focal point of Puerto Banús is the marina. It has berths for 915 boats, including those of the King of Saudi Arabia and several of the world’s wealthiest individuals. Behind the harbour lie streets filled with bars, boutiques and nightclubs. The marina has slips for boats and ships from 8–50 metres (26–164 ft). There is a beach on each side of the marina where boats can be hired.

Its streets are lined with expensive luxury boutiques like Christian Dior, Gucci, Bvlgari, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, and others. One stretch is known as “The Golden Mile”.Apart from the chain of restaurants, boutiques, in the heart of the Antonio Banderas Square is one of the largest El Corte Ingles department stores in Spain, including the up-scale hypermarket, Hipercor.

The Boulevard de la Fama de Puerto Banús was created to pay tribute to individuals who have promoted Marbella nationally or internationally through their professional work.

Gibraltar

The British colony Gibraltar – including its own airport and the world-famous monkeys, which live on the mountains of the peninsula – is one of the biggest tourist attractions on the Costa del Sol.

Rónda

The small but beautiful andalusian town Ronda, with its approx. 36,000 inhabitants, is located in the andalusian mountains. Ronda is said to be one of the most popular white villages of Andalusia and reached a high level of awareness by its old moorish historic centre and the almost 100 m deep canyon, formed by the Río Guadalevín, which makes it a well-known tourist destination for tourists and locals.

Alhambra

The andalusian Alhambra near Granada is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Europe. Since 1984 it also belongs to the World Heritage. The impressive complex from the Middle Ages is about 740m long and 220m wide and located on the Sabikah Hill of Granada.

If you wish to visit the Alhambra Palace in Granada, we recommend that you book an advance reservation via a travel agency. Depending on the time of year, it could be impossible to get tickets on the spot because of their restricted allocation or there could be long queues that lead to hours of waiting.

Morocco (Tangier, Ceuta, Tetouan)

Visit Africa! We highly recommend to use a travel agency if you wish to plan a day-trip to Morocco. In this way, crossing the border, travelling to the port of departure in an air-conditioned bus and the ferry crossing itself will all become considerably more straightforward..

Costa del Golf

The Costa del Sol is home to so more than 60 top golf clubs, that it has also been given the name, the Costa del Golf. Players can be sure of well-maintained courses set amidst idyllic scenery and of good weather virtually all year round. Although the area has been frequented by many European golfers for a long time now, it was the tournaments held in Valdarama that first attracted the attention of the international golfing scene to this region. The demand is so great that many new courses have been laid out and the most popular ranges have to be booked months in advance.

More tourists than Spaniards play golf on the Costa del Sol. A recent survey has indeed shown that 80% of all international golf tourists have played on the Costa del Sol. Many golf clubs stage tournaments all through the year. Therefore it is advisable to telephone in advance to inquire about availability. During the summer months, some golf courses arrange special offers for green fees. And many clubs, because of their great popularity with tourists, now have English and German-speaking staff.

Important Festivals

The annual climax of all Spanish festivities is without a doubt the “Semana Santa.” This begins the week before Easter and continues right through the entire Easter period. Even in the smallest of towns, processions take place every day to celebrate this festival. The most impressive throughout the whole of Spain, however, are the Easter processions held in Seville and Malaga.

Summertime in Andalucia sees the celebrating of the Feria – a kind of travelling fair that only begins as night falls (around 9 pm at the earliest). It entails much more though than the usual fairground hurly-burly. Explosive flamenco performances and extravagant firework displays turn a visit to the Feria celebrations into an unforgettable experience.

New Year’s Eve is also celebrated in a big way in Andalucia. In the town centre of Marbella, as in the town centres of every other town and city, throngs of people congregate at midnight to herald in the New Year together.
